IMMOFINANZ and the Düsseldorf Silicon Valley

"In a location that, years ago, was an industrial port, what is perhaps the most state-of-the-art head office of any company operating in the digital media sector in Germany is currently under construction”, the Rheinische Post wrote on Friday (link to article). “Silicon Valley in the regional capital - the new headquarters sound more like an experience than an office complex: a restaurant, fitness centre, jogging terrace and cinema are all planned”, stated the “Neue Rhein Zeitung” (link to article)
The rest is the new trivago head office, which is currently being developed by IMMOFINANZ in the Düsseldorf MedienHafen. On Thursday this week the official foundation stone laying ceremony took place. The time capsule, which contains the construction plans, a daily newspaper and a current set of coins, was sealed by Thomas Geisel, Lord Mayor of Düsseldorf, Peter Vinnemeier, founder and CTO of trivago, Oliver Schumy, CEO of IMMOFINANZ, Wolfgang Marcour, a managing partner of the general contractor, sop architekten, and Olaf Demuth, a member of the Board of Directors of Züblin.

Lord Mayor Thomas Geisel expressed his pleasure that trivago - which was originally established in Düsseldorf - is now locating its global headquarters in the economic centre. “Today is a big day for the Düsseldorf harbour”, he said in his short speech.

Peter Vinnemeier in turn briefly touched on the rapid expansion of the world's largest online hotel search provider: Six years ago the company had 40 employees - today there are over 1,000, from 70 different countries. “And by the time we move onto the new campus, we will have twice as many employees”.

Vinnemeier thanked the city and IMMOFINANZ: “Bringing all of the employees together in one location is a milestone”. And the roofed wicker beach chairs (or “Strandkörbe”) that are characteristic of the trivago offices will of course also move in, he said in response to a question from the presenter, Saskia Naumann.

Oliver Schumy, CEO of IMMOFINANZ, pointed out in his welcoming address that IMMOFINANZ is probably at present the largest real estate investor in Düsseldorf, with investments of around EUR 400 million. In addition to the trivago campus, we are currently developing FLOAT, the new corporate headquarters for Uniper in the MedienHafen.
